We often think we’re doing something wrong when it feels hard. But if you’re training for a race, building towards a new distance, adding in strength work for the first time, or navigating a training cycle during a life change or busy season… it’s supposed to be challenging.

It’s not going to magically get easier, but you’ll keep showing up and readying yourself for all that’s to come. This is what we love helping with at Pace of Me Coaching. We for sure don’t believe that we make everything “easy” but we do believe we help create consistency in training, take the guesswork out of what you’re doing, prepare you for obstacles that come up, and give you guidance on how adapt to them.

When do I officially start my training block??

This is a question we hear often as coaches, and the big answer (like many answers to running specific questions) is… it depends!

If you are running a marathon this fall, you have most likely begun your training block or are about to begin. The recommended number of weeks to spend in your training block will be based on the distance you are racing. Here are our recommendations:

1 Mile or Less: 4-8 weeks
5k or 10k: 5-10 weeks
Half Marathon: 9-12 weeks
Marathon: 12-20 weeks

Why do we have ranges here? Another “it depends” answer, because your decision of how many weeks will be influenced by a few important factors:

* Race Distance: The longer the distance of your race, the more weeks you may need and want to prepare your body and mind for race day.

*Experience Level: Beginners may need more weeks to build a foundation. With more experience, you may already have a base coming into the plan.

*Current Fitness and Injury History: Beginners may want more base-building. Injury-prone runners may want to safely and slowly increase intensity over more time.

*Time availability: Consider how much time you realistically can dedicate to training. A consistent plan that fits YOUR lifestyle will be the best one for you.

Custom Training Plans are our newest addition to our offerings, and we’re really excited about these!!

Let’s start with what they’re not: they are not cookie cutter pdf plans. Our Custom Training Plans are completely personalized to the athlete and created based on a detailed questionnaire you fill out. You will also meet with your coach writing your plan to go over and ask any questions before you begin your journey!

These are great options for runners who don’t require regular communication, adjustments or feedback from a coach and who are very self-sufficient and intrinsically motivated.

While they aren’t going to grow and change with you in real time like our 1:1 coaching does, they are still thoughtfully crafted with your goals and history into consideration.

A favorite race of ours in the Triangle is this Saturday and we are so excited!! Running of the Bulls 8k, put on by the incredible @bullcityrunning, is a top race that for many, kicks off a summer of speed! It’s all about community and takes runners through the heart of Durham (yes, even over those rolling hills)! We absolutely love the finish line that comes after an electric lap on the track inside the historic Durham Athletic Park!

Pace of Me Coaching would love to meet you and give you some pre-race cheers! All are welcome! We’ll meet at 6:30 am right by packet pickup (outside the main gates of the Durham Athletic Park, corner of W. Corporation St. and Washington Street) for a group photo! This leaves you with plenty of time to get a warmup in and get to that start line by 7:15!

If you’re running on Saturday, we wish you the best of luck and can’t wait to celebrate with you there!!

We went from cool spring temps to feeling like it’s the middle of July in May ☀️

As we adjust and adapt to summer’s quickly approaching arrival and these next few days of record highs across the East coast, we want to provide a few reminders on how to adjust your running. Whether you love the heat or not, it’s crucial to be smart about it. We don’t have to be heroes. Find the shade, take the elapsed time break to cool down, add those electrolytes to your water, or move runs around to different times of the day or another day in the week.

The heat of summer is coming, but we can’t adapt overnight!

Our mission at Pace of Me has always been at the forefront of all that we do – to help runners of all abilities pursue their potential through holistic, science-backed coaching that goes beyond the miles. No matter what your goals are, where your fitness is, or how much experience you have, we would love to work with you and be a part of your running journey!

Our coaches are trained and certified and bring years of experience, knowledge and passion for the science of this sport into our coaching services. Each coach is also actively pursuing her own goals and dreams. At the core of what we do is 1:1 Coaching, but we are evolving and growing and have made additions to our offerings to best meet athletes where they are in their individual journeys. In 2025, we began offering Monthly Strength Training Subscriptions that are separate from a run coaching plan. More recently, in 2026 we are beginning to offer Custom Training Plans.

In this post, we’ll explain how our 1:1 Coaching process works and what we offer. Stay tuned for posts that will focus on highlighting our Strength Training Subscriptions and Custom Training Plans. We’d love to talk to you about how one of these paths might be the right one for you!
